It's actually an indicator of high quality natural rubbers.. For this won't happen without the natural makeup found in certain rubber. Some water and a neutral cleaner should fix this right up. The battery compartment is very clean, I do not have any batteries to test it but it is in such great shape I do not think it was used very much.
