    POLAR
    IR Interface for USB
    USED:
    EXCELLENT
    CONDITION
    POLAR IR Interface for USB
    - Fully tested for
    UP / DOWN
data transfer functionality. Perfect working condition.
    This unit is from the
    "D" Series
, the last version of the
    IR Interface
    made before
    POLAR
    introduced the
    IrDA USB Adapter
    technology for data transfer with
    POLAR
    heart rate monitors. The
    "D" Series
is more widely compatible with all versions of
    Microsoft Windows
    and
    USB
    drivers / chipsets.
This interface should work with ALL
    Windows 7
    and earlier computers.
    POLAR
    does NOT list the
    IR Interface for USB
    as compatible with
    Windows 7
    or
    Windows Vista
, however they can be made to work on these two more recent versions of
    Microsoft Windows
. Here is a link to a video which shows how to install the interface on
    Windows 7
    and
    Windows Vista

HOW TO UPLOAD EXERCISE FILES TO YOUR COMPUTER
    :
    Using the
    IR Interface
can be tricky and frustrating (the newer
    IrDA USB Adapters
are easier to use), but the following tips should make the process much easier. The photo above at middle right shows the optimal way to arrange your
    POLAR
    watch and
    IR Interface
. The exercise file upload occurs in two stages, with each stage involving some
    IR
    data transfer and a
    "green bar"
representing the transferring data filling up from left to right across your computer screen. Try to keep your hand holding the watch as steady as possible during both
    Stage 1
    and
    Stage 2
by pushing the watch body against the side of the shelf or table (
    see photo above
). Note this is different from the
    POLAR rs800
    and
    rs400
series watches which transfer data properly when the watch is held vertically with the watch screen slightly below and facing the
    IrDA USB Adapter
. As a general rule, don't store up a lot of exercise files on the watch as this just makes the process harder.
    During
    Stage 1
    look at the "
    green bar"
while frequently glancing quickly at the watch screen. Sometimes the process will fail and the computer screen shows a red
    "error"
icon. When this happens quickly select the
    "Retry"
option on the computer screen and don't do anything with your watch.  Usually the
    IR Interface
will immediately pick up the infrared data stream again and the
    Stage 1 "green bar"
will fill up successfully (this is a key trick to getting past
    Stage 1
). You may have to start the whole process over and set your watch to
    "CONNECT"
again. However, if you get the
    "USB Port unavailable"
    error with the
    "yellow"
icon, and/or the little yellow light on the front of the
    IR Interface
    stops blinking, or if numerous
    Stage 1
attempts have resulted in failure, reboot your computer and try again.
    Once
    Stage 1
has finished successfully the computer pauses and a new
    "green bar"
window pops up, signaling the start of
    Stage 2
. The key to success with
    Stage 2
    is once you see the
    "green bar"
start to fill up from left to right on the computer screen, quickly look down at your watch screen and keep your eyes glued on the watch screen for the rest of the process. Note that the watch screen shows the percentage completion of the
    Stage 2
data transfer process. Don't look away, but wait for the watch to hit
    "100 %"
. Now look at the computer screen and you'll see your files have been transferred.
Sometimes the watch memory gets confused and stores little bogus or
    "stub"
files in the watch. These bogus files don't show up when you go to the
    FILE
menu in the watch settings, rather you see them on the computer screen once
    Stage 2
has finished successfully.  It is important to delete these files and this must be done by selecting each file individually on the computer screen in the
    POLAR
software and pressing on the red
    "X"
    (
    file delete
) button on the computer screen while maintaining the watch connection with the
    IR Interface
. The software will use the infrared connection to delete the bogus files from your watch. This happens fairly rarely, but if you do find these bogus files, delete them from the watch otherwise the infrared data transfer process will not go smoothly and trouble-free.

    ,
    s710

    .
    Earlier versions of the
    POLAR IR Interface for USB
, which do NOT have the letter
    "D"
present as the fifth digit in the product serial number, may not work properly with computers manufactured after about 2005. Symptoms include system restart/reboot after plugging into
    USB
port with no successful reboot until
    IR Interface
removed, or blue screen crash. Users in this situation can try using a
    USB-to-SERIAL
    (9-pin) adapter with the
    IR Interface
and plug into an unused serial port (9-pin) on the back of the computer.
    Windows 8
    users should use the
    POLAR IrDA USB 1.1 Adapter
    rather than
    2.0
    .
    Windows 7
, as well as ALL other older versions of
    Microsoft Windows
    , will work with
    POLAR IrDA USB 1.1
    and
    POLAR IrDA USB 2.0
    Adapters
    . The
    POLAR IrDA USB 2.0 Adapter
is SILVER colored and looks like a lipstick case. The
    POLAR IrDA USB 1.1 Adapter
is BLACK or GOLD colored and looks like a lipstick case. Less expensive non-
    POLAR
    manufactured
    IrDA USB 2.0
adapters should work for most users.
    The
    POLAR IrDA USB 1.1
    and
    POLAR IrDA USB 2.0
    Adapters
    will work with the following
    S-Series POLAR
    heart rate monitors:
    s710i
    ,
    s720i
    ,
    s810i
